Bulletproof Wireless Security

Wireless networks are, in effect, broadcasting stations. Anyone with the proper equipment and knowledge can have access to the contents of any computer or server in such networks. This means the demand for truly effective security in wireless networks is urgent and constantly increasing. In this book, Chandra takes an integrated engineering/software approach to wireless security rather than relying on software approaches alone. He advocates restricting the coverage of any wireless network—through such techniques as using directional antennas and keeping transmitter power to the absolute minimum necessary—in order to make the network “invisible” to potential intruders. Once this is done, software tools can be used to restrict network access to permitted users and to encrypt data and messages exchanged within the network. The author also explores the motivations and psychology of network intruders (especially youthful “hackers”) and how these must
